Finally finished the two straps I was working on this week. What looks like a simple strip of leather took about 3 hours of work each. Each piece of leather is carefully cut by hand with a sharp x-acto knife and the curves are cut free hand without a guide. I use finer thread on the stitching for straps because the holes are a little smaller and closer together on straps than on wallets. Three different types of leather are used in each strap to give it shape. Leathers are chosen according to their finish, color, strength, stiffness, and texture. The combination results in a strong flexible strap that will hold its shape over time and be comfortable to wear. These straps are much more than a simple length of leather with holes.
